Stanley Bond, a member of the Murray Association of Educators, traveled to New Orleans to serve as a local delegate to the National Education Association’s 2003 Representative Assembly.  Mr. Bond was able to actively help create legislation for the nation’s largest teachers’ organization.  Present at the RA were 12,000+ NEA members which included teachers, students and educational support personnel from all over the United States.  The NEA Representative Assembly is a sounding board and strategic planning time for developing better public schools for America’s children.

President Reg Weaver in his keynote address to the delegates, said that NEA is mounting a “Great Public Schools for Every Child Plan” and that NEA is willing, able and ready for the task.  Weaver went on to say that lawmakers are paying lip service to the importance of public schools and cutting off the resources needed to get the job done.  While pledging to “leave no child behind,” legislators have slashed education funding-but enacted huge tax cuts benefiting the wealthy.

All members are encouraged to get involved in our organization so that we each can be a part in “developing better public schools for America’s children.”
